The Greek tourist tax nobody mentions
There is an accommodation tax on every stay in Greece, it is not included in the price you see when you book, and it is charged per room rather than per person — which makes it cheaper than travellers fear and more surprising than it should be.

The rates
High season runs 1 April to 31 October. The property collects the fee at check-in or check-out — it is not in the price your booking site showed you.

The cruise fee is a different thing

Questions people actually ask
Is the tourist tax per person?
No, and this is the single most useful thing on this page. The Climate Crisis Resilience Fee is charged per room, apartment, villa or rental unit per night. A family of four in one room pays the same as one person in that room. Two rooms means two fees.
Why was it not in the price I paid online?
Because Booking.com, Airbnb and VRBO do not include it. The property collects it at check-in or check-out. That is why guests are routinely surprised, and why a booking that looked like good value acquires an unexpected line at the desk.
When is high season?
High season runs 1 April to 31 October, low season 1 November to 31 March. Low-season rates run roughly 67% to 75% below high-season rates, which means shifting a trip across the 31 October boundary is a real saving on a long stay.
What is the cruise fee and is it the same thing?
It is separate and works differently. The Cruise Sustainable Tourism Fee has applied since 21 July 2025 and is charged per passenger, per port call — not per room per night. It ranges from about €1 to €20 per disembarkation, with the highest rates at Mykonos and Santorini in peak season. It is normally bundled into the cruise line’s port charges rather than collected on the dock. Infants under two are reported as exempt.
Does it apply on the islands as well as the mainland?
Yes, nationwide. It was introduced on 1 January 2024 under Law 5073/2023, replacing the older accommodation tax, and it applies everywhere.
Why is this page marked as a draft?
Because every rate in the table is one we have not been able to confirm against AADE guidance. The star-band rates are consistently reported across secondary sources, and the rates were adjusted at the start of 2026, which is exactly the situation where consistent secondary reporting can be consistently out of date. We do not publish figures we cannot stand behind.
